Be Careful Where You Throw Your Tie-Down Cables/Straps!

This happened Wednesday, July 23rd, near the airport in Jackson, TN.

The driver was attempting to throw the logging cable over the logs to secure them & as you can see, hooked the 7.2 KV primary instead!

He said the tires began to fry within seconds…..very lucky man…he could easily have been fried himself!

DeMoss Named Safety Professional of the Year

The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Kansas-Wichita Chapter recently honored Alan DeMoss of iSi Environmental Services with the ASSE Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) Award for his commitment to the Chapter, safety in the workplace and the occupational safety, health and environmental profession. DeMoss received the award during the year-end chapter meeting on May 5, 2008.

“Alan was instrumental in getting our ASSE documentation done and submitted for the Chapter STARS Award,” said Wanda Roehl, ASSE Wichita Chapter Financial Secretary. “This chapter hasn’t received that award for five or six years. It is key to a successful Chapter to do the requirements for and receive this Award.”

The Chapter STARS Award is for ASSE chapters that have formalized and reported their strategic plan, financials, Long Range Plan and Chapter Bylaws; have Chapter representation at the National House of Delegates meeting, Regional Operating Conference, and Annual Leadership Conference; and provide technical meetings, assistance, and recognition to their membership.

DeMoss currently serves as Consulting Services Manager of iSi Environmental Services in Wichita. He has over 30 years of experience in the areas of safety management, training, and development. An active ASSE officer for five years, DeMoss is past-president of the ASSE Kansas-Wichita Chapter, and serves on the ASSE/CHMM golf tournament committee each year. Over the last chapter year, he organized efforts to have several nominations for each of the open offices within the Chapter, so that the membership could have an election and vote. The election trend in past years relied on volunteers who agreed to serve in a position. Elections were an approval of those volunteers.

The ASSE Kansas-Wichita Chapter was chartered in 1944 and continuously seeks to fulfill its chartered purpose of “advancing the safety profession, its professional well-being, and development of its members.. within its assigned Kansas geographical service area.” For more information, please visit wichita.asse.org.

The Importance of Planning Ahead...

This picture has circulated the internet for several years as the icon of stupidity and poor planning. I guess these guys aren't as foolish as everyone thought - so it seems....

Victory™ Bollards
A cannon style bollard that is ideal for environments where preservation of a period or architectural style is desirable. Precision manufactured from Durapol® material, VICTORY Bollard is maintenance-free, requires no painting and will not rust, chip or splinter. The unique Glasdon patented Key-Locking Socket System gives the flexibility of a permanent, temporary or semi-permanent application. The system allows bollards to be removed and replaced with a blanking cap that locks securely into the socket using the same key.

They're removable! Another example of the importance of always checking things out completely! (It's still a great photo, though!)
